On June 9, 2024, a meeting of the International Advisory Committee (IAC) of the Dushanbe Water Process was held in advance of the Third High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018-2028.

The meeting was chaired by IAC Co-Chairman Sulton Rahimzoda, Chairman of the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management of the Republic of Tajikistan with participation of permanent members of the IAC and their representatives, invited guests and other interested parties.

Within the framework of the meeting the members of the International Advisory Committee discussed and presented their comments and proposals on finalization of the Final Document of the 3rd Conference on the Water Action Decade Conference, which was presented by the International Consultant on preparation and holding of the Conference Kelly Ann Naylor. An initial draft of the Outcome Document was circulated in May this year to UN Member States, international organizations and other stakeholders.

In early June, after receiving comments and proposals from states and organizations, including members of the International Steering Committee of the Dushanbe Water Process and the Steering Committee of the Group of Friends of Water under the UN and other interested experts, the draft document was finalized.

On March 22, 2024, on the margins of the High-level event “World Water Day 2024”, the delegations of the Co-Chair countries of the UN 2023 Water Conference, headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Water Resources of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, met again at the venue of last year’s conference and noted the importance of successful bilateral cooperation at the last year’s historic event.

During the meeting, the heads of the two delegations stressed the need to continue advocating for the urgent implementation of the Water Action Agenda and the voluntary commitments of last year’s conference.

At the end of the meeting the heads of delegations and their teams took a collective photo.

On March 14, 2024, a briefing was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affair of the Republic of Tajikistan with participation of the Co-Chair of the International Advisory Committee of the Dushanbe Water Process, Chairman of the State Committee on Investment and State Property Management, Sulton Rahimzoda, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ismatullo Nasredin, and the Resident Representative of the UNDP in Tajikistan, Lenni Montiel. The briefing focused on the preparation process for the Third Dushanbe Water Conference.

During the briefing, it was noted that this Сonference aims to accelerate actions and strengthen cooperation between countries and other stakeholders to contribute to the implementation of internationally agreed water-related goals and targets, including Sustainable Development Goals 6 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Participants were provided with detailed information about the program of the Third International High-Level Conference on the International Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018-2028, which includes interactive dialogues, forums and cultural events.

Görüşme sırasında Asya Su Konseyi Başkanı, Barışın ve Ulusal Birliğin Kurucusu – Ulusun Lideri, Tacikistan Cumhuriyeti Cumhurbaşkanı Sayın Emomali Rahmon’un girişimlerini yapıcı ve zamanında değerlendirerek memnuniyetle kaydetti.

 

 

 

Muhataplar ayrıca Tacikistan ile Kore arasında su ve iklim alanında ikili ve çok taraflı işbirliğinin çeşitli yönleri hakkında görüş alışverişinde bulundular.

On July 7, 2023, in Songsan, Gyeonggi Province, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Republic of Korea Kirom Salohiddin met with the CEO of the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K water), Yun Seog Dae, who was re-elected Chairman of the Asian Water Council.

 

 

 

During the conversation, the Chairman of the Asian Water Council noted with satisfaction the initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon, assessing their constructiveness and timeliness.

 

 

 

The interlocutors also exchanged views on various aspects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Korea in the field of water and climate.

On May 17, 2023, a meeting of the member states of the Group of Friends on Water was held at the UN headquarters to discuss the outcome of the United Nations 2023 Water Conference (March 22-24, 2023).

 

 

 

 

At this event, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the UN Jonibek Hikmat, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Yoka Brandt, Deputy Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua and President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly Csaba Kőrösi participated as panelists and expressed their opinions regarding the results of the Conference, including its main messages and further actions.

The Permanent Representative of the country during his speech, highlighted the success of the Conference, its importance and its significant contribution to global processes such as the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the SDG Summit (September 2023), the 28th UN Climate Change Conference, Summit of the Future (2024).

On May 11, on the sidelines of the 31st anniversary of bilateral relations and at the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Republic of Turkiye, an event dedicated to the water diplomacy of Tajikistan was held at the Institute for Strategic Thinking.

 

 

The Ambassador of Tajikistan to Turkey, Director of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan (online), Director of Institute for Strategic Thinking and a young scientist from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan took part and spoke in the event.

At the same time, scientists, specialists and students of Turkish universities took part in the above meeting.

On 22 March 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affair of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Sirojiddin Muhriddin participated in and presided over the Leaders Segment of the United Nations 2023 Water Conference.

The Leaders Segment, held as part of the UN Water Conference brought a large range of stakeholders, in particular Multilateral Development Banks, Private Sector and Civil Society Organizations into discussions on the concrete commitments and actions for the Water Action Agenda.

The speakers once again expressed their gratitude for the initiative of Tajikistan and other partners in organizing this Conference and emphasized that international institutions and the private sector will contribute to the further fulfillment of declared commitments.
